Final Week at MSI

Final Week at MSIWow, I can’t believe that it is all over and I’m back home again! It seems like just weeks ago that I was busy packing and figuring out travel plans. My final week at the REEF was both very busy and very fun. Monday was the first day that Tech Trek was at the university. Tech Trek is a group of 96 middle school girls and counselors sponsored by AAUW, American Association of University Women, which comes every summer to the REEF. My responsibilities on Monday involved a 45 minute…See More

Final Week at Independent Power Systems

At the beginning of my final week at IPS, I was sick just like half of the IPS employees. I took Monday and Tuesday to recover. Wednesday I went to the all IPS meeting and then rode with Chris Berg on two system turn ons south of Denver. Thursday I went with Frank and Pete to do electrical work. I learned how to hook up the wires coming from the solar arrays to the inverters and then to a breaker box inside the house. Also the arrays must be grounded, so a cooper wire runs from the array all…See More

Week Five

Week Five:Sadly I have arrived at the end of my last week at the Amaro Lab. Throughout the week I went to two presentations on various information, a lab group dinner and I learned how to run different jobs on Green Planet. The two presentations I attended were very interesting and very educational. They were both on computational drug design and discovery. I realized during these presentations that people make very interesting long lasting successful careers out of what I have been working on…See More

Busy Week Five

This past week has been the most exciting week so far. Monday started out like any other week, but then on Tuesday the Lunar Science Form started. The Lunar Science Forum is a science conference concerning almost anything that has anything to do with the Moon. There were hundreds of people attending as well as many speakers. This conference continued for the next three days from morning until evening. Then on Wednesday, there was a conference at Stanford University from the European Commission…See More

UCI Week Four

Week Four:This week at UCI in the Amaro lab has been very successful and productive. The first day at the lab I began to set up a P450 3A4 file to run and minimize. This took a lot of work and a considerable amount of, greatly appreciated, help from Rommie to actually build a missing residue chain within the protein so it could run successfully within AMBER programming. Once the residue chain was built into the protein, I had to remove the heme in the protein. After that I started to add the…See More

Week 5 at Independent Power Systems

This week was awesome, fun and I really enjoyed the freedom of my main duty. I used Pictometry which is 100 times better than Google Earth because the images are so much clearer and I had to find 10 or so houses that would be great for solar. I measured the roofs and drew up two different systems with different panels for each house. I created 5.4 to 5.376 kW systems which is about how much the average home uses in a year. I worked with Laura a sales women to create proposals and send them out…See More
